Skincare | Winter Edition

My guilty pleasure? Skincare…and vampire-themed romance novels. But, skincare is what we’re focusing on today. All the lotions and potions make me weak to knees and I could spend hours at Sephora or skincare counters at department stores testing creams and deciphering ingredients. Winter is always a challenge on my dry skin, but I think I’ve mastered a solid routine for the harsh weather and want to share my most recent finds and favorites with you!

Cleanse:  My everyday makeup routine consists of under-eye concealer, eyeliner, and mascara.  The Chanel eye makeup remover  is my all time favorite.  It removes the most stubborn eye makeup with an effortless wipe and doesn’t sting the eyes.  On the rare evening I wear a full face of makeup I use REN No.1 Rosa Centrifolia Cleansing Balm. Infused with rose, the oil to milk cleanser melts away even the most waterproof mascara and is hydrating and calming for dry skin.

Exfoliate: Every 2-3 days I will exfoliate my face in the evening.  I rotate between Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser and Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser. I’m almost out of the Suki and will repurchase the orange scented sugar to foam cleanser.

Tone: After cleansing, I use May Coop Raw Sauce or fresh Rose Floral Toner to prep the skin for all the nutrients and hydration to follow.  Asian skincare has been all the rage lately and for good reason.  I was a little hesitant about the Raw Sauce, also known as an essence popular in Asian skincare routine, but it really does help improve absorption and effectiveness of products applied afterwards. Plus, it smells divine.  I spritz the Rose Toner after applying makeup or halfway through the day to freshen up a bit.  It helps to hydrate, brighten and sooth your skin.

Treat: Serums and treatments are concentrated shots of goodness to your skin.  Whatever your concern, there is something you can mix up to fix the issue.  Sunday Riley Good Genes has been all over the internet and it is worth the hype.  The lactic acid chemically exfoliates your skin through the night and helps with wrinkles, hyper-pigmentation and texture over time.  The smell is interesting, but I was willing to cope when I saw results right away. Dermadocter kakadu C gives a huge dose of Vitamin C which helps to BLT (brighten, lighten and tighten). I use it morning and night, rotating between Good Genes and Retasphere (below).  The Caudalié S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum is for those mornings my skin feels irritated or red.  It does an amazing job calming and plumping up the skin. Last by not least, eye cream.  Shiseido Benefiance WrinkleResist24 is the eye cream I’ve been using for the last couple of months. It is rich, luxurious and great for winter months.  Don’t be fooled, the small pot goes a long way.

Day: On my latest trip to Sephora I picked up Boscia Sake Balm.  I was intrigued by the bouncy gel texture, and am always down to try out anything hydrating and brightening. It did not disappoint. It’s lightweight and keeps my skin quenched throughout the day. Most importantly during the day, SPF is the best thing you can do for your skin.  I don’t ever leave the house without applying it.  During the cold dry months I use Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47.  It adds another layer of hydration and protects my skin from the external forces.

Night: Our skin does most of it’s regenerating and healing as we sleep. That’s when layering on the ingredients is best.  In addition to the treatments I will finish with one of these three products.  The Josie Maran Argan Oil is great for skin, hair, nails, etc.  Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate is my new found favorite oil.  Its calming lavender scent leaves your skin plump and glowing in the morning.  Nights when I feel like my skin is just bleh, I’ll cocktail Kate Somerville RetAsphere with a couple drops of oil.  This retinol night cream time releases through the night and the hyaluronic acid keeps the strong ingredient from irritating your skin. Retinol is a solve all ingredient – uneven skintone, texture, wrinkles will all diminish with continued use.  Just make sure to slab on that SPF in the AM!

What are some of your favorite skincare products for winter??
