We have been dying to check out Fern, a shop that specializes in unique plants and objects, located in College Hill. Luckily, the perfect moment arose when we were able to successfully register for the Tillandsia 101 class held at the studio last Wednesday evening. Upon arrival we were greeted by Megan, the the talented owner and teacher, with snacks and beverages.
Each table was set up with an airplant guide and materials needed to construct our own aeriums. Materials included glassware, various types of rocks and mosses. The best part was the ability to pick our favorite tillandsias from the different species carried in store. Did you know airplants cannot survive on air alone? Yep, they still need sun and water to thrive!
We took the class very seriously.
Ta-da, here’s the finished product! Both of us took advantage of the flat bottom on the glassware and displayed them on our coffee tables in our living room. They add such an interesting green touch to any room, and are incredibly low maintenance.
After class, we took the time to walk around and take a gander at the assorted plants, vases and even skincare around the studio.
We can wait to take another class at Fern soon – they will be offering monthly classes on plants and other crafty topics. In the meantime, we’ll probably be back to pick up more fun items for our homes!
